Depaysement

Lost in translation is envisioned to be a magazine with each issue dedicated to words that do not translate in English or other languages. Each magazine is centered around a word and the feelings associated with it in an artsy, clear, minimalistic fashion. The tagline of the magazine is set to be “A cultural interpretation of the peculiar”. The first issue of the magazine is dedicated to the word Dépaysement (The feeling of not being at home, in a foreign or different place.) This issue is intended to focus on different pieces around the notions of “not being home, being alone, feeling of isolation, identity, family, nihilism etc.” The tone of voice as envisioned by the editorial team is: romantic, descriptive, calm, casual, storytelling.

The elevator story of the magazine is the introduction and elaboration of “difficult to translate” words through stories and interviews which are visually supported by minimalistic illustrations/images. The target group is defined by the editorial team to be 18 years old and above urban, intellectual people with a sense of art (mainly Modern Community-Oriented Segment, Gallup Compass). The genre of the magazine is set more in the direction of art and indie magazine and the magazine is envisioned to be published/ produced outside the mainstream.
